Re: Faulty headlight switch?
Well, Volvo would not touch this as a recall, but the nice dude at the parts desk sold me a switch at a slight discount -- paid $85 tax in. The old switch fell to bits while I was extracting it and the new one works perfectly, so it's clear that the switch was the fault.

Faulty headlight switch?
I have a 1998 S70 T5 with Canadian spec DRL. Yesterday I noticed that while in the "on" position, the headlights are on, but the dashboard lights and running lights are off. Switching the lights to the "parking light" half-way position turns on the running lights and instruments ...

Key cut for a 1998 S70
I've misplaced one of the two keys I have for my 1998 S70 T5 SE (Canadian model). The keys are "laser cut" ie: cut on a milling machine. I do not believe this model year had any fancy electronic BS in the keys, so I think I can have one cut for on the order of $40 or so by a competent lock...

Wheel bearing -- front or back?
When my 1998 S70 T5 is going around a right hand curve, I'm noticing a bit of a hum. Doesn't seem to be there on left curves and slow driving in the garage around sharp curves doesn't seem to give CV joint noise. I think I likely have a left-hand wheel bearing going bad. Is there a way to diagnose f...

Re: V70 1998 Corner headlight detached
Corner lights are fairly cheap. Here's a youtube how-to that shows how to get one out and back in. If your old one is completely detached, fast forward to the last step in this video.

Re: 96 850 spoiler hold down clip
I would consider simply removing it. My S70 T5 never had one and it seems to drive just fine. I don't really like the look of them myself.

Re: 98 s70 -- cold induced brake warning
Small leak at the fitting on R/F caliper. The level was getting low. Probably cold-induced shrinkage of the remaining fluid put me under the switch's sense level. Is fluid level the only thing that this light tells me? I thought it would twig to booster vacuum problems and hydraulic system imbalance...

98 s70 -- cold induced brake warning
I park my s70 indoors at home and at work and so it does not see the full rigours of our -20C weather too often. But I had occasion to park it outside for 48 hours at -25C or so this weekend. It started up fine, but on starting the brake warning light is on. What kind of things cause this warning li...

I use anti-seize on my lug bolts. I don't think there's much choice as around here the amount of salt they use on the roads makes them seize faster than you can keep up with. I am familiar with the principal that lubricating threads reduces the torque requirement for a given holding power. Neverthel...

I am not a great judge of the exact tightness of my serpentine, but it seems far from loose. There is not more that 10mm play in the longest run I can easily reach. I don't have gauge, so there's no telling for sure. Even when there is no squeal on startup -- the squeal happens on maybe one in 20 st...
