Have you tried shaking the axle? Do you notice any play on it? this sure sounds like a ball joint problem, are you sure there isnt any play on the ball joint?

afaik, you aren't supposed to put anything other than oil on these bolts, and yes, when you're putting it back together, get the threads and bolt head slightly damp with oil, that is to lubricate the bolts when you torque them down, if not you risk getting the head to surface torque instead of head ...

What oil viscosity is in the engine? Did it burnt oil before rebuilt? How about valve guides? Did the ring had out of spec gap when you put it into a sleeve and leveled with a cylinder....before putting it onto a cylinder?
