The "23/0" is a factory wire splice. It's located in the plastic wire loom that runs across the front of the engine. Search Google for "1996 volvo 850 wiring diagrams pdf" (Or send me a message with an email) to see a better factory diagram, and also get locations of the splices...

The immobilizer is long gone (bypassed) and should not cause these issues either..the car would start and then die not cut spark just fuel

Fix the ECT sensor and it's connector. Replace the connector if you need to (I've replaced ours with WeatherPak type connectors, as the stock ones are long disintegrated. This should be your primary focus. I had the SAME issue that presented as a no spark, but it was the ECT in the end. It happened...
