Burp or bleed cooling system?

In replacing the alternator in our 94 850 NA, I dumped about a pint of coolant in removing the upper radiator hose. I filled the resevoir up to normal, but do I now need to burp or bleed the cooling system? After the alternator replacement, the car started poorly, and the temp gauge pegs high immedi...

Re: 94 850 NA cut-out

Thanks for the replies. No, I did not change the fuel filter. It could be 15 years old! I'll check the batt terminals for tightness. About a month ago I did replace the OE stereo headunit with a contemporary aftermarket box. Maybe I didn't fully secure the negative.

94 850 NA cut-out

About one year ago, with daughter #1 at the helm, our 94 850 cut out, showing the full Christmas tree. She was able to immediately restart, and all was fine. I quickly purchased a new fuel pump relay and slapped it in. Yesterday, now with daughter #2 driving, the same thing (I think) happened. It se...

Re: 94 850 high center brake light

Right on, Vegas. Bulb is good, jiggled lug connectors and scraped contact surfaces. All is fine now. Thanks.

94 850 high center brake light

Bulb failure dashlight came on, and sure enough the high center brake light is out. I replaced the bulb, which said 21W, with a Sylvania 7506LL, also 21W. All looked fine, so I went to bed. Today the bulb failure lamp was back on, and the brakelight wasn't coming on. Our daughter repo'd the car, so ...

service light reset help

94 850 NA, followed directions I found here, but after 4 presses of the button, the LED does not re-illuminate. I had the key in the "on" position but did not start the car. Any advice on a next step?

Green light on 99-01?

Heretofore I never considered 99-01 Volvos due to the ETM issue, but it appears the xemodex fix is for real. So, this morning I checked out a 2000 V70 GLT with only 64k miles on it. It passed my cursory look-over and test drive, but I would certainly take it to my local Volvo indy for a PPI. Some qu...

Manual gearbox 850

Wife has long said she'd like a wagon, and lo and behold an 850 wagon is available locally, with a manual gearbox!

Any history on these boxes would be appreciated. Clutch slave cylinders leaking? Synchros wear quickly? Were these ZF or Getrag boxes? Anything particular to look for?

Thanks.

94 850 NA Pleased with fuel economy

Yesterday our recently acquired 850 with 130k on the clock made its first long highway trip (in our hands). Daughter #1 ran it across the state and back, and got 32.1 MPG. I asked her if she went 70 MPH, thinking she might have been slowly psuedo-hypermiling like some of her other poor college stude...

Broken sideview mirror, 94 Volvo 850 NA

The driver's side mirror is floppy, as though a tension spring or something is broken. Does anybody have a description of what's inside these "breakaway" mirror assemblies? Getting the whole mirror assembly off looks pretty easy, and this site has an excellent DIY for removing the inner do...
