Re: Transmission drain and fill - funnel size?

Pretty sure resetting requires a VIDA. Many do fluid refreshments with no ill effects. I dare say most do 'em without resetting. I do not have the capacity to reset. However, the 5 of these trannies I've serviced all worked the same or better afterwards. oragex: What fluid did you use when you got t...

Re: Transmission drain and fill - funnel size?

How many times you D&F is your call. Multiply the number of D&Fs by 3.5 to get a total. If you do 4 D&Fs it'll total 14 quarts. (4 x 3.5 = 14) Remember, there'll be a period of diving to circulate the fluid after each D&F so there'll always be time to fetch additional fluid. Do you live in far away ...

Re: Transmission drain and fill - funnel size?

I'm not sure I know your plan. Approximately 3.5 quarts of fluid drain out when you unscrew the drain plug. There's no way the entire contents of the system (10-11 quarts) can drain out. Look at the fluid. How darkened is it? Is it pure, clear red? If it's pure clean red, you needn't do additional d...

1/2" is the O.D. of the tubing I use. The I.D. read 1/3". I just mic'ed it to be sure.

I set one end of a 14" long piece in boiling water to soften it. Then onto a funnel the softened end goes.
The tubing fits perfectly into the dipstick tube but you still have to pour the new fluid in slowly

How many miles are on your XC70? Just askin'. I like the idea of pressing new bushings into your old control arms. As mentioned above, the XC70 arms are different. Changing your fuel filter, if it's old, is "always" a good/smart thing to do.
If you do this yourself it's an inexpensive maintenance operation.
Changing one frequently doesn't cure problems but you will be SO happy if a new filter cures yours.

I too like nice, hard brakes. My '76 Ford E100 van had 100% no-play, instantly contacting, perfect (swear word) brakes. While doing front rotor replacement and a rear pad slap on a neighbor's Chrysler van we chatted. He complained that the van and every car he's ever owned had distressingly soft fee...

To Mikele82 and everyone else. I saw, drove and pulled codes from the XC-90 today.
There were 17 codes several of which were seemingly connected. There were a few I didn't have a clue about.
I starting a new thread for it for clarity.

Please read it and help my sorry....you know. G&K

Re: Ford power steering fluid?

Old red trannie fluid is how I got my first V70. A guy's "buddies" tended his car at the hanger where he worked. The pump grew noisy. I bought the car and a flush with Volvo fluid silenced it for 40K....then it died. The junk yard pump had pale green fluid dripping from it. I used and have been usin...

Being appreciably in-the-know helps a lot. It sounds like you can attach (and add up) $ numbers to various scenarios. Have you seen the car? So much sounds superficial. A HG failure or something real wierd (?) killed the cat. You'll be weighing the price of some other car with AT LEAST the ~$1,000 +...

How were cylinders #4 and #5 identified? Did you use a code reader then erase the codes? It's always good to read codes, write them down then erase them.
