The control arm bushings on my '04 XC90 were shot by 110,000.

"Check Engine" is usually an indicator of a problem in the emissions systems.

It's good for parking passes and the like also.

I use a Dice Electronics Silverline unit in my e46 BMW with no issues and used a iMIV LE in my V70 before it was smashed. The very proprietary audio system used by Volvo on the XC90 is probably my biggest complaint.

But FM injection is still FM fidelity. No where close to what it would be if it was a direct line in, right?

Hm. I'll have to open the manual mirror and check the board for solder pads but it sounds like it may be worth a gamble if I can pick up an autodim unit for cheap.

I'm wondering if the dealer will need to send a new load to it to make the computer aware of the autodim or if it will simply pick it ...

If I have an S60 with a manual dim rear view mirror, would it be possible to retrofit an auto dim mirror in it's place? If I swapped the glass and mated it to the old UEC, would it be pre-programmed to work the auto dim?
