How to tell if head gasket is blown

What are the tell-tale signs of a blown head gasket on these vehicles? I've seen some videos of people opening up their coolant reservoir caps with the engine running and then it quickly boils over. Is this a reasonable test? Other things to look for?

Re: power steering "clacking" noise

No pics. I have easy access to several junkyards and actually prefer obtaining parts there myself. This way I can be certain how best to access the components, try out a few things, and then tackle the job with confidence. Fairly straightforward job. The top bolt on the tensioner was accessed from a...

Re: power steering "clacking" noise

UPDATE So upon closer inspection, noticed that the ENTIRE belt tensioner pulley was gone. The belt was riding on an empty shaft!!! Never seen anything like it. There was just enough tension to run the PS, alternator, AC somehow. Not sure how the pulley disappeared, but the belt stayed on. Maybe sinc...

Re: power steering "clacking" noise

No, I did not. What should I be looking for? Maybe I should remove the serpentine belt and see if any of the pulleys (PS, alt, A/C, tensioner) are loose or wobbly?

power steering "clacking" noise

2005 S80 2.5T, 220k There is an intermittent loud "clacking" sound that seems to be coming from my power steering pump. There are no leaks, the reservoir is at the proper level, and I don't seem foaming or odd coloration. The pulley feels solid, no wobble. The power steering assist works fine. Is th...

coil spring spacers

Has anyone had success using rear coil spring spacers? I'm just looking to lift the back end about 1/2" to 1". A couple years ago I bought the blue spacers that IPD sells. They didn't seem tall enough to make any difference. Other suggestions? Recommended sizes/dimensions/manufacturers?

Re: rough idle especially in reverse with wheel turned to the right

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Successfully replace the turbo intake hose, got everything reconnected, and we're back in action. Smooth running again. Any questions on how to replace this part, hit me up. It was a challenge, but not impossible.

Re: rough idle especially in reverse with wheel turned to the right

Thanks a ton for getting back to me.
OK. So don't mess with the part with my pen in it.
Below is a picture of the hole in the metal plate. I have a light shining inside so you can see that it is clear and not blocked at all.

Re: rough idle especially in reverse with wheel turned to the right

I've attached a photo of the intake pipe that I obtained from the junkyard. The red pen is pointing to an apparent orifice in the side of the PTC. However, this orifice appears to either be blocked off intentionally or maybe it is clogged. Should this orifice be cleaned out or drilled open? I don't ...

Re: rough idle especially in reverse with wheel turned to the right

So I went to the junkyard and successfully removed a couple of these turbo intake pipes. I had to remove the airbox, battery feed cable, and bundle of wires connected to the fuse box. Then I was able to loosen the banjo clamp from underneath and wiggle the intake pipe out while disconnecting the thr...
