Hopefully new/improved ETM will do it. There's a reason why Volvo walked away from Magneti Marelli. Installed the XeMODeX. The air intake is now refreshed from the air inlet to intercooler-ETM pipe. The MAF is new too, but I may have to clean/replace the MAF, other then that the drive this morning ...

Intercooler to ETM pipe
Crumbling at the ETM connection. Replacing this pipe will complete this service of end-to-end replacement of intake pipes and hoses. Ending with installing XeMODeX throttle body next.

I replaced my ETM with XeMODeX several years ago. About a year ago I had intermittent starting problems and got the ETM replaced free for XeMODeX. No other side effects. Smoother idle and slightly better MPG maybe. This is a great upgrade if you plan to keep the car several more years. I also like ...

Our 2001 V70XC 2.4T is on its 2nd Volvo/MM ETM. The OE installed ETM (white label) was replaced by a local mechanic around 130,000 miles for a lot of money. The replacement MM ETM (yellow label) has been on for +70,000 miles, and our MVS Mavericks say it will fail too. So, at 202,080 miles, I'm prep...

Some finer details after the OAP replaced, and few drive cycles -- runs way better. The sudden drop in engine speed is absent, and jerk after taking foot off the gas pedal is minimal. Much cleaner shifting up and down during the normal urban drive. BUT, rpm hunts between 900-1200 when slowing to sto...

So basically the TCM asks ECM to reduce torque for the longevity of the shift. ECM does it by reducing fuel, boost and throttle. Remember, you cant test for boost by just revving the engine. THese cars manage torque, so revs without load wont boost . Revs without load won't boost. Intake holes can be seen in fuel trims. Small ones will drive LTFT (long term) up, large holes will drive STFT and cause idling/driveability problems. ECM relies on front H2OS for this loop to work. I love the height of the loading bay, and the fact that you can comfortably lie down flat in the car when the back seats are folded , without having the impression that you're lying on the floor of a trunk - it's very snug. Our youngest was delighted to "camp" in the car this way. The small ledge w...

Replaced the ambient air hose to the air box, MAF, intake hose between MAF and turbo, and the TCV. Checked the hoses and pipes for routing. It starts and runs like a champ. It's time to check a/c charge. The dynamic reading with warm engine at the lower port is 32psi.

With a/c running, the needle dances between 44 – 28psi with compressor working. Cool air is flowing in from the center vent.

Do you recommend adding little r134?

ABS ring and its function is independent of wheel alignment. But you must do wheel alignment after steering and suspension work regardless. An un-aligned car is self destructive, danger for motorist, and burden on your pocketbook.

As far as i know, a must to replace if one doesnt know the maintenance history is the timing belt and the water pump. Now, is heater core a must? So you can safely do it with the battery disconnected? Do you have to ground the airbag wire or anything? The static discharge step is to ground the "seat" before lifting it away from the rail. Camshaft seal to give at 120k is premature. Our 2001 V70XC leaked at 196K, however the 1997 850 at 178K is still dry but oil pan seal has weakend. Oil is getting onto the exhaust manifold near the front of the engine (timing belt area). I'm not sure if it's dripping down from above or being flung upwards from below. Is that a groove in the belt? As in, can you catch your fingernail in it? Or is it just a different color? It’s hard to tell from the photo. If it’s a groove I’d definitely get a replacement from FCP. They’ll take care of you I’m sure. The ribs/grooves are full, continuous, but the change is felt o...

I looked at the Volvo belt that came off the car closely, and did not notice any such marks. The ribs on old one has started to crack.

What is FCP quality assurance practice – none?

Conti T-belt is not "even": one side is thinner than the other, or something along that way. Belt tends to slide to the outer edge of the sprocket. OE belt does not do that. Serpentine belt will eventually cost you a PS pump. It is either a bit too short, or it does not stretch/flex enough, so it r...

Your 01 may be different, but taking that bracket down to inspect won't hurt a thing. Just squeeze those with a needle-nose to allow the metal plate to drop down. R...

Re: 2013A XC90 - 150,000 Miles To-Do List

VIDA Says:
Initial fill: Fill AOC til fluid escapes to single drop. Close the port and then drive to circulate fluid.
Final fill: Fill AOC til fluid escapes to single drop. Now draw out 40ml (40cc). Close the port with new o'ring - tighten to 35Nm.

It is now back running.

Why Volvo wouldn't include a protective cover like the one under the engine. Salted roads and oxidation makes the job way harder in tighter spaces.
