Re: Turn the key and hear a ping but no cranking...
Junkyard bones are often good. That is what I did on my sons' 850 that had the same symptoms, cost me $20 and 1/2 an hour.

Re: torn cv boot. Replacement recommendations?
I agree with Eric, I bought an EMPI about 82K ago and no problems. I put an auto zone axle in the left side and got 22K and it started burbling. Auto Zone offered to warranty it, but i insisted on store credit (oil and such) just bought another EMPI. By the way, I used Euro15 in the discount code an...

Re: Turn the key and hear a ping but no cranking...
It most likely needs a new starter, sounds as if the solenoid is engaging, but the starter is worn out and will not spin the engine over. Might check the starter relay first though, but the ping probably indicates the relay ok. One way to tell would be to isolate the location of the ping. If it is c...

Re: low heat in cabin at 32f outside.
Sounds like the Thermostat stuck in the open position for awhile, then about the time you got home it came loose and started functioning properly again. You can bet it will do it again, but it might be a good while. If it does it again the thermostat needs to be replaced. At least that is much bette...

Re: 98 s70 glt, really odd noise
Sounds to me like somebody previously extinguished the CEL. Does it come on when you turn the switch to the ON position? jblackburn is absolutely right about the water in the pump - that is an easy fix too.

Indeed, It will be an Indy shop, the closest Stealer is 50 minutes from here. I am Not planning on work, just wanted to see if this might be a common occurence. I thought i might have bumped the Anti' when I was torking around on it. Been a few years since I did an oil seperator an I did the rear ca...

Re: S70 t5 odd problem...
Your local dealer can provide the combo on the lock - via the VIN number (providing no one has changed them before...) I an S70 and V70 that had those symptoms, a little graphite spray fixed both of them. The tumbler being sticky can cause the switch to not return to the ON position and hence the ne...

Re: Long Volvo history, but this is a new one for me...
Thanks for the reply! I realize I will prob need to get a stealer involved, (especially on the 98, I'll get the Check engine reset too.) but was just hoping someone else had a similar experience, that could steer me in the right direction so I could get it fixed prior to getting it reset.

Re: Learnt something today!!
With the miles on your clock Shane, I would probably not change all the fluid at one time - often problems will show up. I would recommend only draining and refilling the pan which i do every two oil changes. I would also recommend Dex VI the additives are good for older trans. I am at 178 on my 98 ...

Long Volvo history, but this is a new one for me...
Hi Folks, New to this forum, but been foolin' round with bricks for a few decades. Used to sell 15 to 20 a year, kinda a hobby, tied up with a 'Volvo Clinic' and sold a ton of parts too. Used to buy salvage to support my habit..... Then life got in the way of my affliction ;-) Bambi killed my mom's ...
