Re: 1996 854 ECC top vent problems

I think it even factors in the phase of the moon. Right?! And maybe a few exoplanets in galaxies far, far away, inhabited by angry beings that do not like humans. You can operating the motor electrically with any sort of power source, 9v battery works, or whatever else. Doing so will allow you to s...

Re: '96 850 estate turbo fcr wont read ecu

I'm honestly not sure on hardware, but Torque is a great solution if you have an Android. It's only a few bucks from the Android market, and the ELM327 adapters are <$20. Any stand-alone hardware will be significantly more $$, and likely larger. No idea if you're into tinkering with ECUs, but if you...

Re: Android Torque app for OBD2 volvos

When I was doing OBD-II based data logging, I used this ELM327 device: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051CAE1C&tag=matthewsvolvo3-20 ELM327 is the part number of a chip made by Elm Electronics. http://elmelectronics.com/obdic.html#ELM327 It is a serial interface chip, supporting SAE J1850/I...

Those ratcheting wrenches are pure win. The swivel ones come in really handy, as do the stubby-length ones for those tight places.

Re: '96 850 estate turbo fcr wont read ecu

VOL-FCR indeed will not read M4.3. M4.3 supports blink codes as well as OBD-II. Even though the 96 models did not have the diagnostics box under the hood, the ECU pin for blink codes is wired to the OBD-II port. You can either use an OBD-II scanner or roll your own blink code reader. The idea is: ht...

Re: Looking for a Volvo 850 2.3 motor - Dallas trip...

Been a long time since I've been in Dallas, but give these guys a call: http://www.southwestauto.com/ -- I've sourced RWD stuff from them including a tranny and a B230FT. Looks like they've morphed into more of a service shop, they used to do a lot of used parts, maybe they still do, but they've bee...

Re: Engine codes from 94 850 Turbo, 147k

Running rough and spewing smoke when doing so is no indication of a need for a headgasket. First step is resolving P0326, front knock sensor signal. This code puts your car in a limp mode, retarding ignition timing and richening fuel mixtures. Next step is the usual ignition tuneup, cap/plugs/rotor/...

Cheers, little update for those who might want to look at Motronic Suite -- The gentleman who did that project has moved on to other things, and his site is no longer. However his work, mostly on Saabs, didn't disappear completely: http://socalsaab.com/suites/suites.htm has Motronic Suite, plus his ...
