Fuel line disconnect question

I'm afraid this is a dumb question, but I'm hoping someone can give an easy answer: Tonight I loosened the intake manifold on my 2004 xc70 to get a broken intake bolt out (broke when doing pcv system). Thinking I would have to take the manifold off and remove the fuel line, I pressed the green tabs ...

Axle seal leak

This is a question about how much negligence is ok to allow. I'm pretty sure I have an axle seal leak. There's motor oil covering the bottom of the transmission, and my mechanic pointed out that it seems there's a small leak from the axle seal. But it's not a huge leak. I'm not losing very much oil....

Re: Reusing water pump bolts

Thanks for that. I didn't realize there was silicone on there. Picking up on your suggested question, would this sort of thing do the job? Does the sealant stay on the bolts and not mess up the coolant or the pump bearings? Permatex 22071: https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-22071-Thermostat-Silicone-Ga...

Reusing water pump bolts

Planning to do the timing belt on my 2004 xc70, I figured I'd throw on a water pump. But I just realized that it apparently won't be coming with new bolts. So, I'm wondering: are they really necessary? Can I just clean them up and put threadlocker on them?

Re: Intake manifold bolt size?

Thanks, abscate. That's so kind and generous of you to offer. Looks like I can get the bolt off FCP, though, saving you the hassle of mailing it to me. $8 in shipping, but I might have a think about other things I need to get it up to the $50 for free shipping. A question: before I did the PCV, I wa...

Re: Coolant drain and fill question (more out than in?)

Interesting. So, you suggest not worrying about it for now? Perhaps the path of least resistance (or, at least, easiest to do int he driveway after work), is to drain it again from the radiator, and refill. I don't know the math on it, but I imagine that would dilute the previous coolant down pretty...

Re: Coolant drain and fill question (more out than in?)

Thanks, vtl. One more coolant question: in my haste to drain enough coolant to do the PCV system this weekend, I drained from lower radiator hose and got out about 5-6 quarts. I drained out some sort of dark green coolant (I bought the car used). I put blue volvo coolant in (mixed 50/50). My problem...

Re: Intake manifold bolt size?

Thanks so much for the reply! And for the link. The ipd site says the bolt is for an 850; will it work for my 2004 xc70? I ask only because the ipd website's fitment function is telling me no. Also: I replaced the gasket while doing the pcv. Replace it again? Is the issue that it functions like a cr...

Re: Coolant drain and fill question (more out than in?)

Well, answered my own question. I took some extra coolant mix when I headed out. When I left, it was at the max line. About 15 minutes later, the "coolant low" indication came on. The reservoir was almost empty. Filled it back up to the max. And then another 15 minutes later, checked again...

Coolant drain and fill question (more out than in?)

While doing my PCV system, I drained coolant from the lower radiator hose. Probably 5 quarts came out. While filling it back up, only about 4 quarts went into the reservoir tank. (I started the car and let it run, but the level didn't fall.) Is this normal? Is the problem simply that the coolant won...
