Re: 2001 XC70 Cranks but won't start
I'm just going to throw this out there, but my 2002 S60 T5 had intermittent start problems that eventually became a no start problem. Codes always pointed to camshaft/crankshaft position sensors or bad ECM. It ended up being a stripped camshaft pulley (bottom of engine/timing belt). I've got a post ...

Re: 2006 S60 ECM replacement question
From my own experience with a cold start problem... I have a post somewhere on this forum on it. I took my 2002 AWD S60 to the dealership due to a starting problem. They did hook it up to their diagnostic equipment and determined the ECM was bad. I bought a used ECM and had XEMODEX reprogram it at a...

Re: 2002 C70 Car is completely dead, What are my options?
Does the engine at least turn? Check the compression. I had the crank shaft pulley strip on my 2002 S60. Two different dealers said it was the ECM (which I replaced with Xemodex). They were wrong. A local mechanic picked up that the timing was off given the cam shaft error code. He pulled the timing...

Re: 2002 XC70 ECU Issues... worth fixing?
I used Xemodex for my 2002 S60 Turbo AWD with no problem. I bought an ECU on Ebay for $28. You have to send the old and new unit so they can move the codes. They keep old unit. Be aware that you pay for shipping in your order. They send you a label or shipping info. I got in a hurry and sent the uni...

Re: 2002 S60 stalls restarts within 2 minutes
One possibility is something there has been a couple of recent posts about. You may want to check the crank shaft pulley. I had similar symptoms with a 2002 S60 AWD (turbo) that had a hard start problem that became a no start problem. Dealers told me it was the computer. WRONG. A local mechanic figu...

Re: 2002 Volvo S60 AWD Turbo Cranks but not starting
I wasn't the original owner, but it was in the family. The car spent most of its life in KY and WV. Neither of which use a lot of salt, but both get their fair share of wet/snowy weather. This part isn't really that exposed. However, it does look like moisture was a problem given the corrosion. The ...

Re: 2002 Volvo S60 AWD Turbo Cranks but not starting
All the repair shop said was that it "slipped right off." They may have used a gear puller, but it didn't take much effort.

You can also do a search for Volvo VIN decoders and see what the VIN tells you.
Here is one for example:
en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Numbers_(VIN_codes)/Volvo/VIN_Codes
You may have to cut and paste the link in its entirety.

Re: 2002 Volvo S60 AWD Turbo Cranks but not starting
I can't give you an exact answer on the cost since a lot of other things were done trouble shooting the problem, but... The "timing belt crank pulley" (part no. 3531531) cost $145.54 through the shop. Ebay has it for $70. I can tell you it's not an easy or cheap job since the timing has to...

Re: 2002 Volvo S60 AWD Turbo Cranks but not starting
It was the fine teeth that mate with the shaft itself. It almost looked rusted or like some corrosion. The shaft was in perfect shape. The mechanic told me he had the part come from the Volvo dealer. When the guy delivered it he asked to see the other part. He said he had never seen one strip out be...
