How difficult is intercooler replacement.

So for a while I’ve had an issue of lost power and unable to drive the car without the maf connected, only to find out it was because the bottom intercooler housing had been smashed to hell leaking every bit of boost from the turbo. Well I went out and bought a perfectly used on from the same year s...

Re: 98' S70 Turbo, Hesitation when accelerating and running lean

Get the codes scanned for free at Autozone if you don't have an OBD2 scanner. That will be the best first step to take here. It sounds sensor-related. Also, I would stop using 87 octane in a turbo Volvo. Up it to 93... 87 burns valves. I did have them checked, that's why I made the posit. I don't r...

I don't remember the exact code, something along the lines of p0170 or p0171 but the description was "system too lean."

98' S70 Turbo, Hesitation when accelerating and running lean

So, I was here a few months ago with an issue that my car was running really rich when the maf was connected. Well after all this time I noticed the intercooler housing was completely broke open. So today, using a CPVC plug and a lot of JB, I plugged the massive hole up. I then connected the Maf up,...

Re: New MAF, black smoke and stalling.

Well, no changes. I've looked from the top and bottom and see no air leaks. I zip-tied the MAF connector and no change. The connector seems to have some goop in it, not sure what it is but there's a bit of it in the connector. Not sure what else to check.

Re: New MAF, black smoke and stalling.

You are missing my point. I'm trying to say that you will need to bend the Maf connector cable just like on the picture i posted and to zip-tie it to stay that way. Being zip-tied before means that connector allready made problems in the past.Maybe the wires are shorted or cut inside and not making...

Re: New MAF, black smoke and stalling.

Did you try zip-tying it's connector: MAFtr.jpg You have few possibilities here: -bad maf right out of the box(less likely) -huge vacuum leak somewhere(more likely) -bad maf sensor's connector(common fault on these cars) Since you have been driving the car for some time with bad Maf,your o2 sensors...

Re: New MAF, black smoke and stalling.

I'm afraid you might have bought or sent a MAF from a naturally aspirated car. Do the part numbers match on the new one? Now either you have a bad new MAF or a wrong one due to web site errors. If unplugging it the car works good then we can rule out any other things with the car itself and point t...

Re: New MAF, black smoke and stalling.

The sign that the car runs better without it than with it connected points to a bad MAF. It could be that connector needs to be zip-tied.It's common failure on this cars. Other than that, you have a huge vacuum leak somewhere or your new MAF is bad right out the box. I replaced it with an OEM Bosch ...

Re: New MAF, black smoke and stalling.

Alright, everyone is saying vacuum leak so I'll start checking on those. From the top there seems to be no leak, split or disconnection but I haven't checked from the bottom so I'll check that today.
