Re: Sealing the right side of a M66 AWD for a FWD setup.

You need a reverse hammer and your share of luck to remove collar sleeve from the differential. Leave it as is, it won't come out on its own. Angle/bevel gear has two seals that sit on the CV axle. One of these seals is located inside collar sleeve, make sure it is replaced with a new one, since it...

Sealing the right side of a M66 AWD for a FWD setup.

To keep it short I've got an M66 AWD trans I'm swapping into a FWD '02 V70 and I have no intention of keeping the AWD aspect. I know that the AWD collar sleeve is essentially free floating (although usually frozen) and held in by the angle gear and also keeps the M66 side of the angle gear - trans l...

In the process of doing a manual swap on a 2002 2.4t v70 and I was curious on if both the ECU and the CEM have to be tuned for it to go well. You should be able to determine if the sensor is bad or something else. Yeah ended up finding all of that and ran some testing with my multimeter. ...

In the middle of a timing belt job here and I noticed that the tensioner once set and tightened will have it's arm reset back to the default position after manually rotating the engine a full rotation. Is that normal? It seems to still be tight belt wise so I wasn't sure. This is a brand new tension...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today....now sticky!!

Filled my SpeedHoles™ with foglights. Didn't end up rolling with OEM because I don't have the cash to drop a couple hundred on em right now :/

(don't have any good pics right now)

Oil leaking from somewhere down by the belts? It might be your fill cap gasket.

Long story short I thought either one of my cam seals / main crank seal went or my turbo oil return was leaking on my 2002 V70 2.4T because there was a lot of oil down in the bottom of the belt area. Went to the mechanic because I currently can't get down in there to inspect the leak. $80 (1/hr) lab...

Re: SRS/DIM Codes - Yet no actual fault

Literally in the same exact spot, except last time I replaced the gauge cluster I was able to clear it with a diaxag tool. Doesn't work this time around even though just as you tested all is good for lights. edit: dealer wants $55 to clear even though it's literally near-free since the actual cleari...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today....now sticky!!

What a coincidence E Showell: A deer ran into my V70 on Saturday in Upstate New York. It dented my FR fender and broke my headlight light lens. Now I hate them. I installed a Curt receiver hitch on the car on Sunday. I drove home shaking my fist at all her relatives eating grass along the Throughwa...

Re: Retrofitting headlight wipers on a V70 wagon, do I need a software upgrade? Topic is solved

update: it fits and "works" but one of the motors I got at the scrap yard is el' crappo'd and the other must have a dead gear somewhere as it just spins but the arm won't move. Not the end of the world but I guess that answers the original question as to whether or not it'll work out of the box. I'l...

Re: Retrofitting headlight wipers on a V70 wagon, do I need a software upgrade? Topic is solved

Oh and you'll have to find the tubed and the split from the wiper fluid pump as well. Headlight wipers are bliss in the slushy winter months. Just imagine driving through winter without touching the windshield wipers.. I know about the wiper fluid bit, and to be totally frank I'm probably not going...

Retrofitting headlight wipers on a V70 wagon, do I need a software upgrade? Topic is solved

So the TL:DR version is basically this: I've got a 2002 V70 2.4T that I've done a S60r bumper swap on, and now I've got headlight wiper holes but no headlight wipers. There are covers in existence but the problem is since the S60R's wiper holes are different shaped, the covers for them are rarer and...

Re: Second gauge-cluster reinstall, can't reset SRS light this time around

If it comes back it's an active error as above. The error code itself should give you a hint about what it is. I'm well aware of what it is if you read the thread. It's pretty clearly complaining about the indicator lamp being faulty. The problem is that I can clearly see that it still works as evi...

Re: Second gauge-cluster reinstall, can't reset SRS light this time around

The part about it clearing and coming back in 2 seconds is damning. That is what happens when you clear it and there is an active fault that is detects immediately. Crap. The weird bit is that the light certainly works, as it turns on when the car starts up. Not getting the internal circuit fault e...

Second gauge-cluster reinstall, can't reset SRS light this time around

So after my second gauge cluster crapped out on me a few weeks ago and I sent it out for a reflow/solder/etc, I put it back in after getting it back today only to get the SRS indicator fault code. "No big deal" I figured as the first time I replaced it I got the same code and just reset it with my m...

Re: Mystery engine bay steam / smoke + splatter [2002 v70 2.4T]

A very popular (if I can be sarcastic) leak is from the turbo oil feed pipe at the rear of the engine where it enters the block. When they leak they can squirt engine oil on to the exhaust and onto the right side drive shaft which then flicks the oil upwards as it rotates. Also the fake plug at the...

Re: Mystery engine bay steam / smoke + splatter [2002 v70 2.4T]

My first guess based on its location is a leaking hydraulic engine mount (the black curve that dips down toward the spatter in the second photo). Second guess would be leaking power steering pressure hose which descends right above the spatter. Check your power steering fluid level for one way to r...

Mystery engine bay steam / smoke + splatter [2002 v70 2.4T]

Was recording with my camera in various spots around the car (dead center under, by the tailpipe, engine bay, etc.) while sitting today partially because I wanted to hear what it sounded like with the stock exhaust there and partially because I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything wonky going o...

The B5244T3 is a RN.
2001-03 S60 2.4T
2000-03 V70 2.4T
2001-02 V70XC 2.4T.
Is that the later RN (listed as 2002-2003 in the original post) with the stronger/longer connecting rods?

Model year vs production year clarification for engines

In https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53446 the post mentions* that the 2002-2003 5 cylinders had slightly improved internals (namely thicker rods) allowing the engine to make 340bhp and over reliably. I didn't want to bump a 6 year dead thread so I figured I'd ask: Are those y...

The only concrete-ish max torque figure I've found so far is that http://etereman.com/blog/general-motors-transmission/a-history-lesson-on-the-gm-4t65e-transmission-and-discussion-of-some-common-problems-and-their-cures mentions that it was used with motors producing up to 280 ft lbs of torque which...

2000 S80 GM Trans. Name / Torque ratings

So my brother a few months ago picked up a 2000 Volvo S80 with the 2.9l non-turbo engine and the 4 speed automatic with ~150k miles on it for cheap. After a good bit of cleanup we've got the fluids replaced (trans flush too, old fluid was effectively burnt (but thankfully not to the point of no retu...
