Re: Bypassing heater core

Thanks guys... Not sure what you mean by a "barb nipple". The clamps on the block are the type where, as you screw in the bolt, the whole things consticts around the pipe. Is this a barb nipple? Got some 19mm hosing (+- 3/4"). Works like a charm! Now to get the heater core fixed. Luck...

Bypassing heater core

My 850's heater core leaks into the passenger footwell. I need to get it replaced, but I also need to drive the car. Can I bypass the pipes leading into the core? Someone I spoke to mentioned something about messing up the ECU? I would probably do the bypass in the engine bay. Does anyone know the i...

'96 850 manual box oil

Is it necessary to replace the gearbox oil? Recently changed the ATF in my dad's XC70, made a HUGE difference, but that's an auto. Is it necessary for the manual transmission? My car has 295 000 km. As far as I know, this has never been done before. Thanks!

The clutch was replaced a few months ago, only done about 5 000 km since. Will check it out anyway.

850 woes (well, minor woes really...)

Ok so the latest problems are as follows: 1) When I switch off the aircon, the air coming into the car smells very moist. Any ideas? The heater matrix behind the radio leaks coolant into the car (very minor, this weekend's repair job) but if I understand right that's only when the heater is on. This...

96 850 windscreen wiper dilemma

Hi all, With the recent bouts of rain I've noticed the driver's side wiper doesn't work effectively. The blade is completely off the glass at the end of the wipe. Tried swapping blades, generic and Volvo ones, problem persists. I suspect my mechanic mixed up the two wiper arms. Can anyone tell me wh...

Have you checked the fuel line relay? Someone I know had a similar problem, which was caused by this. It's located with the fuses under the bonnet, remove the 4 screw holding down the cover.

Courtesy lights not working, '96 850

Hi, A bit of an old post I know, but only joined yesterday. Fantastic site by the way! My '96 850 GLT has the exact opposite problem: the courtesy lights don't work. I can switch them on manually with the ceiling switches, but when the main switch in set to "door" they don't work at all. I...
