Broke air cleaner base retainer clip during ABS...

Post by xHeart »

Tight spaces.

Wiggled a bit harder to pull the air cleaner base out, i guess. When putting the air cleaner base back, noticed the retaining male pin, closer to the ABS module, was broken, partly peeled-off. Forcing the box back to snap-on further deteriorated the retaining pin. Now the pin is attached to the air cleaner base, but not attached to the seat, its base. The plastic piece has broken-off.

Is there a replacement part - or a simple fix?

The air cleaning unit is intact though. However, it rocks/yaws a bit between the battery and the brake fluid reservoir. It appears, the engine vibration is making the air cleaner's hose to front grill come loose, and the positive (+) battery post cover often comes off in rubbing against another hose. I check it after each ride, and wiggle it back to normal.

I can't be asking my wife for the hot glue-gun for this repair. :D

Thanks!

One of my cars has had this broken for years, without any problem. If your worried just put an elastic cord or something to hold it in tight, but I don't think its going anywhere. I'm sure the new base would cost a fortune from volvo.

The junkyard visit was disappointing. However, I found the part number, see item #8 in the above diagram. I will order item 8 and rubber cushion #11 this weekend.

What to watch for when I do this part replacement?

Thanks for your help, All!

preparing to replace broken bracket.

Today is Sat 2/11. I now have the replacement bracket and rubber cushions. The air box cleaner base is removed. With the help of WD40, I have successfully unscrewed the two 1/2" bolts holding the bracket in place.
Is it safe to disconnect and connect the tube back again? what is its purpose?

I am not sure now how to proceed with the hose. It goes through the bracket like thread through a needle. Therefore, I ask, could I disconnect and reconnect the hose at the conduit (circled in red)? Should i expect fluid come out? Please help!

Thanks so much.

I believe it's just some kind of air/vacuum line. I have watched a guy disconnect that thing about 5 times working on his PNP switch.

The hose to the right of the conduit flexes, but to the left it is firm-fix. I am preparing to pull it off after a quick prayer.
It is 7:00 p.m. job is done. Also replaced the two worn rubber cushions. Air box now sits the way it should, firm.
Trans D&F is next.

Thank you R!
