Once the pinch bolt is loosened.....

Use a long steel rebar or equivalent, gently hit the U-joint, don't damage it.
Just go around it.

Thank you for the pointer cn90.

The steering gear is now disconnected except from the u-joint.

A proper placement on u-joint would require the metal bar to enter at the small space between tranny and the rack, and from below the subframe.

Since lowering of the subframe, I am asking myself, if I should have raise the car little more. It is on 4 jack stand with the engine support bar at the top.

Any thoughts on rasing further while subframe hangs?

I am now dreading this step. Fearful that it would be a start of some problem upstream in steering column that I would have to fix next.
