2004 XC ABS & Check Engine Light On, Speedometer not Working

Post by jb1882 »

A few days ago started getting some messages ... ABS & Check Engine Light On, Speedometer and tachometer not working. When I press messages button, states transmission needs service.
At first I thought it was just because it was cold. Turned off and back on ... lights disappeared. It is continuing to happen. Sometimes it helps to turn car off and back on.

Something thing similar happened to another Volvo. With that one I pulled the ABS module and had it rebuilt and it was fine. I dont recall the transmission message with that car though.

Will be bringing in to be looked at soon but am wondering if anyone has ideas as to what it could be. Is the car safe to drive or will it eventually stop running?

Thanks

If you want to work on this you will need to get the specific codes read from the OBD port. This will guide you to the issue.

The transmissions on these cars are solid and last a long time if you respond to maintenance promptly

Thanks. It is going to go in on Wed.

I read through the forums looking for others who experienced. One person suggested beeping the horn. I did this and all the messages disappeared and speedometer and tachometer working. Thoughts on this?

Lol.

Maybe thumping the wheel jiggled the ignition switch

Watch this (till the end), the car is actually a 2004 like yours, not a 2003

Just don't walk into the Volvo dealer. This is typical issue with which the main dealers will make it a pleasure to do a costly repair (over $1000) without even fixing the main issue. Check instead the Xemodex site.
