Service light reset for Volvo V40 and S40

How do you reset the service light on the dash????

All models for 1999 and on can be reset by putting the ignition key into position I, push in and hold the odometer reset button (use your left hand), move the ignition key to position II, when the service light begins to blink,let go of the odometer reset button. Confirm by turning your Volvo off then on again.

Tried all the usual procedures but all failed.
Set to position 1, pushed in odo, turned to position 2 then have to hold for 2 minutes before goes out then no flashing or beep. Start car and ok, turn off and start again, service light back on. Must be missing the final step somehow. Help !!

S40/V40 SERIES SERVICE LIGHT RESET
RESETTING SERVICE LAMP ON 1999 S40/V40

1, Hold down the odometer button

2, Turn the ignition so all the lights come on

3, Keep holding the odometer down for 30 secs or until the service light starts flashing

4, Release the odometer button

ive just done my 2001 s40 no problem release button as soon as the service light flashes....

Must be different for older models.......

If anyone knows the procedure for a '97 Diesel I'd be obliged....

Can a tool be made up? (I'm experienced with electronics so building wouldn't be a problem)

I dont know if anybody knows but there are people trying to sell this information on ebay.co.uk.
