V70 XC 98 Possible MAF?

Post by Glencoeteen »

Hey guys. So i have the Famous CEL, The car runs pretty good. more or less Stage 0 just took it to Vancouver B.C and back from Portland, Oregon with no problems. i have my own OBD-II reader which i use on every type of car i own and it gave me a P0112 Code...Intake Temperature Sensor Low Circuit. Some have told me its part of the MAF.. When the car is running I can unplug the MAF it will run a little rough for about 4 seconds then idle no problem. but once i go to plug it back in.. engine still running it dies right away... so does this mean the MAF is bad? most cars i have worked on died or ran extremely poor when the MAF was unplugged. so any and all help will be great! IPD wants 180 for a new MAP or the wrecking yard down the road from them will sell me one for 50 bucks.....

on most newer cars, yes the iat is integral to the maf sensor. but on a 98 probably not. i had the same code in my 98 s70 turbo. took about an hour to figure out it was refering to the temp sensor mounted in the lower facia. i had removed the front lower splash shield (sensor mounts in splash shield) for service and left it off to verify leak was repaired. yours coulda been racked on a curb or road debris or just a fault in the sensor itself. if im not mistaken the iat temp the pcm sees is inferred on these vehicles between a couple of diff sensors. you could check it with an ohm meter if you know the resistance values for a given temperature

Yeah someone told me that was what was normally wrong.. So i went to a wrecking yard im friends with the owner.. and he gave me two of those sensors and iv tryed them both and still have that CEL so im not sure whats going on.. both of the cars i took them from were wrecked and in running condition...

ouch! i wouldnt load the parts shotgun until you verify the cause of the concern. do some research and see what other sensors the the pcm uses to infer the intake air temperature. have you verified the circuit of the above mentioned sensor back to the pcm? youll probably need a wiring diagram with the pcm pinouts. and also the normal circuit voltage or resistance, i would assume it would be 5 volts? do you have a scanner that can read pid data? you would then beable to see what temp it is reading

I have a Actron CP9185 Elite AutoScanne best one Autozone had. and i also had one from IPD the Scantron II and it read the same Code.... P0112........ I love my Volvo and never had any trouble and always easy fixes but this Code is that hardest and most difficult one iv ran into. come the 18th my Temp permit is Expired. and i cant pass DEQ due to the CEL

well does either of those scanners read pid data? if so then see what the iat is? should be roughly 15 degree warmer than ambient temp

From what it shows a constant -40... Ambient is 45 right now. so that means the temp sensor in the MAF is not reading correctly?

Have you cleaned the MAF yet? That fixed mine for a few months. Also I assume you cleared the codes before and then after plugging the new MAF in, correct?
