Volvo Repair Database "Bumpy" gear change?

Lots of you seem to be experiencing bumpy changes, and even after the recomended fluid change, the problem still persists. The issue is most definately related to the down-shift cable adjustment. The manuals instruct you to adjust the cable by messuring the distance between the outer cable & 'crimp' this however is only a basic setting, and if the throttle linkage is not 'syncronised' then you will still have problems. The 1st step before any adjustment to the kick down cable,is to check for lost movement in the throttle linkage.By turning the pulley by hand you will see that there is a delay before the 'butterfly' starts to open. This delay means that the down-shift cable is moving before the throttle. So adjust the linkage rod, which has a r/h & l/hand thread at each end to take out all the play, and adjust the kick-down cable so they both start moving together.I've done this adjustment on several AW71 boxes, and it has solved the problem.
