Already tried a mirror, I can't get a better view from the hole...
But when I went to feel the hole with a piece of wire, it seemed blocked about 1cm deep, but on the left side of the hole, I can push the wire further in...

Yup - you found it - your freeze plug broke.
You can't drive the car like this so I would take the turbo to a machine shop or mechanic and have it repaired. Its a great time to inspect it to see if it needs a rebuild. Have the machine shop pressue test the turbo center section cooling passe to assure that it didn't crack the housing before the plug (doubtful but must check while out).

Hi!
I spent my evening getting my turbocharger out of the car...What a pity with the AWD transfer box in the way...But anyway I got it out!
JDS60R, you were right! The freeze plug is gone...I found it on top of the transfer box...Tomorrow I'll take the turbocharger to the machine shop and get it checked/fixed!
My turbocharger is out...

Hole where the freeze plug should be, and where the water came out from:

The freeze plug and the hole:

How it should look like (other side of the turbocharger):

I'll keep you updated about how I'll fix that hole!

That's so cool !!!
I am glad to see you got it out and found the plug - that's cool.
I am sure your picture will be looked at 1000's of times as it is the first one I have ever seen where you found the plug.
Make sure to order up your crush washers and gaskets as the job will take less than a day at any machine shop.
I can't decide if I would want both plugs done - I think I would but better to ask the machinist.
If you can pressure test it your self than you are all set - If not ask the machinist to do it first. By the look of it the plug just popped out. I doubt the housing is damaged but now is the time to check.
Best Wishes and please let us know how it turns out.

Hello!
My turbo is fixed, but not the way I expected it (thread+plug), but reusing the freeze plug, as the turbo wouldn't separate from the exhaust side. So we preferred not to break anything and reused the freeze plug. We cleaned the hole and reshaped the plug to make it fit tight and strong in the hole, and we added some green Loctite. It should be all good.

But as the job was finished, I noticed something else, there's a broken part on the inlet side:

I found on ebay a rebuild kit for this turbo:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWAX%3AIT
It should do the job or? And I think a rebuild can't be bad on a 166k turbo? Or do you have other ideas or recommendations?
My turbo is the Low Pressure one, Volvo part number 8601227, made by Mitsubishi: TD04HL-13g / 49189-01365.
Anyway, I'll put the turbo back in, to be able to drive the car to my volvo mechanic and see what's really going on with the headgasket and with the whole car (didn't drive it yet!).
I'll keep you updated!

Its ok to rebuild them yourself but you will not be able to rebalance the unit. Usually this is not a concern as all of the items on the mainshaft are not damaged. Is the broken piece by the intake wheel a washer or the top of the wheel. I looked at the remaining part and can see a stress fracture on the right side.
If the wheel is damaged it is best to go for a rebuilt and balanced unit.
If the washer is included with the kit then it is ok to rebuild it yourself.(we are assuming they did not take away any material from the washer to establish a balanced rotating shaft - they usually grind the nut)
Perhaps a good used one may be a good option. Good call on the green loctite. I think it fails at 600 f so you should be fine - your sill not see more than 300 f as it is in the water jacket but close to the turbo.

The more I think about that washer and that it may have been ground down some ,the more I think you should have someone rebuild/rebalance yours or sell youa good rebuilt one.
I am sure there are a few low mileage ones out there as well. perhaps Erie has one - They usually guarantee for life.
Its possible you could rebuild it yourself and it would be fine. Not knowing what was going on with that washer and if they ground it for balance leads me to believe that having it rebuilt and rebalanced is the safest advice I could give.
In times with no money - My advice would be to bolt that one back up and see how she does.
