Rough idle on 2002 V70T5
My V70 T5 started to idle rough this afternoon. The acceleration has a hesitation and roughness that is getting progressively worse in a matter of hours. Last month it was having similar conditions and I replaced a coil and all was fine. I rechecked all my connections to make sure nothing had come loose from the coil replacement and all was well. Is it common or possible that one of the other coils is failing? My vehicle has 107k on it and I have done only one major repair in 80k miles. I had to have some form of etc? replaced.

My independent Volvo mechanic told me to replace all five coil packs at the same time to avoid five trips to his shop. He believes that 100,000 miles is the life of the coils. I don't know if he's right but I took his advice.

Thank you for the response . It would make since to do this, unfortunately funds are low and only one unfortunate event is in the budget for this month. I limped the car to work this morning, bought the coil at lunch and put it on in the parking lot. Thanks again for your response.
Hey, I just had the same problem with my wife's S-80; rough idle. I called it surging. Took it to the dealer for, what I thought was going to be a $52.50 diagnostic, turns out, it was the throttle position sensor. They (VOLVO) fixed it for FREE! I guess with all Toyota's surging issues, Volvo isn't taking any chances. I didn't ask, I just said thank you very much and gave them my debit card.

1foren, No I did not replace the plugs at 80K. I will plan on that this month. The mass air flow was cleaned last month. Thanks for the advise.
wscoastdl, Surging really isn't how I would describe the problem I had.
