erratic idle and whistle

Hi- I have a 2000 v70 petrol automatic, It has a very poor idle and occasionally stalls it also makes a very loud whistling noise from the engine this does not happen all the time.
Thanks in advance for any help/ideas.

Power train error codes will help us immensely with the engine problem but the whistling noise could be the air conditioner system re-equalizing.

Could it possibly be a broken vacuum line? Seems to me that with broken lines (or elbows) you can get an erratic idle and I've heard disconnected lines whistle before, too.
