850 turbo, brake lights stuck on_fixed

95 850 turbo. 167K miles.
This evening my neighbor knocked on my door and told me my brake lights were on, which was a surprise since my car was shut off and the light switch was also off! I wound up pulling the fuse until I can look tomorrow. The only thing I can even guess is a stuck relay somewhere - the only thing I did recently [today] was to stick my foot under the brake pedal and give it some upwards pressure (I read on a different thread that you can sometimes fix a cruise control like that, which is another issue).

Anyway - anyone else have brake lights that refuse to go off?

Hi John,

Please ensure that your foot is completely off of the brake pedal...I hope this solves your problem.

..... Being more serious I think this is a relay issue. I recently had the exact same problem but with my hazard lights. I pulled the hazard lights fuse out until I could figure out what the hell was going on.

I resolved the problem by pulling out the anti-theft relay and putting it back in.

Your answer was pretty funny turbol, "please ensure that you foot is completely off of the brake pedal" , heh. Actually, it was a bit of an ID Ten T error - : on my 850, the brake switch clips into a metal frame and is held there by plastic prongs. The retracting switch itself is held against the brake pedal by this arrangement, and when I stuck my foot under the pedal and pulled up earlier in the day, I managed to push the switch out of it's cradle - leaving it in the extended, "on" position all the time. The 10 second fix was to press the switch back where it belonged.

What part of St.Louis are you...I used to live in the Town & Country / Chesterfield area....OHH I miss it!
