Evap control code

Hi,
I have an evap system code on a 96 850 turbo. Could this code include the gas cap? I know that someone on here also mentioned the evap control valve.

one more thing, I don't get that pressure release sound when I open the gas cap. Could there also be a leak? i am going with the gas cap first since it is cheapest. Any other thoughts?

It could be a problem with the gas cap, but is highly unlikely. The gas cap is not a problem spot on these cars, the evap valve is. It is normal to not hear a hiss when opening the gas cap. If you ever do replace the gas cap, you must use a genuine Volvo cap, which costs about $35, otherwise you'll have problems with it. Just replace the evap valve, clear the codes, and call it a day.

If the code said LARGE leak yes it would be the gas cap. Reset and see if the code reappears.

does autozone still reset the codes? if not who does

In states such as MA they will read the code but NOT reset. To reset yourself just disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes.
