Thanks.
Finally got around to replacing the door. Pretty easy job ( especially after seeing the pictures above) but I still can't figure out how to replace the window on the drivers side.
I'll try to work on the old door first this week-end.

Fantastic.. thank you. I have got my second hand door check and having been looking at the door 'wondering' what part of the panel to begin with. Cheers. Kevin. 2x 850R's owner.

i could not help but notice
not one speck of dust or dirt on the inside of that door.
so tell us the truth this is a fake car or you keep it in a hermetically sealed garage.

or you spent 14 hours cleaning the inside of the panel so we would not think bad of you

either way A big thank you for the hard work of posting the instructions .

Pictures to not seem to be numbered in sequential order for removal ???
There seems to be a missing step after taking out the speaker (2) and pulling the door handle (3) -- how do you get the padded inner panel off? Photo 4 shows it already off.

Where do I find a howto on getting the window back on its track (its tilting when going up)?

EDIT:
found a blog post to remove one part:
https://volvo850wagon.wordpress.com/201 ... mment-9712

My 1994 950 wagon has hardboard backing on the padded piece above the arm rest/door handle, and there are 3 keyholes to receive a "button" head. But the buttonhead is really flimsy, white plastic. Seems to be some sort of press-in; they probably slid the button into the trim piece then pushed the padded piece into the holes in the door frame.

You need to move the trim piece straight upwards to get the buttonhead out of the "slot" and into the "circle" to avoid breaking something.

The white buttonheads on my part are a lot smaller in diameter that the black pieces in the photos on the blog post. 1/4" to 3/8" ;whatever that is in metric.

to remove a plastic snap-fit piece in the upper rear area of the "inner" door. Have to start at the top left & wiggle rightwards & up -- the lower right has a clip on the front surface that you don't want to break.

This is also the access point to fix the "roller" when it breaks or slides off of track fixed to the bottom of the window.

SLIDING BLOCK P/N 3512837-0 (actually its a disk).
cotter pin is CLIP P/N 6817147

My Sliding Block broke the edges of the holes where the Clip goes thru. So the clip won't stay on if it flexes. I guess the new part number fixes that issue.

DIAGRAM & INSTRUCTIONS
download/file.php?id=41344
If the side window has come out of
line or fallen down the rear slide
may have cracked or broken.
Replace the rear slide in the front
doors and rear doors with the
improved version, P/N 3512837-0
according to instructions in this
Service Bulletin.

They designed this poorly. Its impossible to (esp in that tiny access panel):
1) push the "pin" on the scissors arm forcefully away from you, into the new Sliding Block. Someone needs to hold the door for you.
2) push the Clip into place -- its a heavy clip, needs to be compressed with pliers (don't drop it down the door !!! - tie a string to it !!!). Don't let it slide along the pliers as you push, but also don't compress it too much...
3) while at the same time preventing the Sliding Block from moving against being pushed on.
You cannot start the Clip partially in the Block.

They SHOULD have made the pin on the scissors arm a bolt-on component. Then you could put the Clip & Block & pin together, slide it onto the slide, and then line a hole on the scissors arm with the pin & tighten it down. In fact, the pin could have been press-fit onto the BLock as a roller, with a clip on the near side of the scissors arm. Or a bolt with toothed washer.

I need to replace the rear view mirror. How do I remove that triangular piece to expose the mirror fasteners?

Reviving an old thread here to add some photos for replacing the door latch grommets in the 850. When these crumble and break, the push rod that connects the interior door latch to the lock mechanism falls out and you will be unable to open the door from the inside. The fix is to remove the lock mechanism and install new grommets.

Maybe, just maybe, URO has finally made a useful part as long as the material doesn't crumble like their normal stuff. If they would just make the product materials more durable they could do a lot of business with older Volvo owners.

I hear you and agree totally! I thought long and hard about whether I would ever put another one of those üro parts on my car ever again, keeping in mind what everybody has reported and my experience of the almost immediate (48 hrs) failure of their windshield washer nozzles. Preparing for the job, I found some generic rubber grommets that I judged would probably work, and I saw the Dorman part that Robert DIY used/recommended, but decided to give the Üro parts above a chance -- we'll see if they hold up.
