Repaired ABS mod. Lights still on
Repaired ABS mod. Lights still on
I have followed the ABS repair mentioned in the repair forum, and there was indeed cracked solder joints. After repairing the solder joints and reinstalling the module, the ABS & STC lights remain. Will these need reset by the dealer? or maybe I missed a solder joint. seeking input prior to repairing module again.... Thanks

Been over a year of scratching my head and reading all I could find. My ABS problems finally figured out. If you have all the abs, brake, traction and spedo and tack going down and trouble with re-start without disconnecting the battery for a re-set this is what cured mine. after a year of not hardly ever driving the car I pulled the air box and checked the connections on the ABS for a bad connection. The multi pin plug is almost impossible to mess up and you would think the small 2 wire would be also, but the connection was an open. The plug was pushed all the way in but one lead had an open circuit. after 10 years and the plug not being sealed there was a slight amount of oxidation on the connections. After cleaning the plug as best I could without a very tiny brush, a small amount of dielectric grease I plugged it in and out a few times, re assembled the filter box and put it to the test. Ran one tire on wet grass and other on gravel and what do you know, NO SLIP. and after about two weeks no more messages came back on. After one ABS repair and two other in to test Volvo still insisted I need a new controller. I doubt they would have ever found this problem as it looks so simple and easy to connect. In my opinion the design being a vertical F Male socket and no seal to keep moisture out this is corrosion waiting to happen. Repair takes maybe 30 mins.

I would like to thank everyone who posted repair info on the ABS Module. After putting of the repair for several months, the wife got the dreaded message to not drive another foot and I got the call, I assured her that it was ok to drive home.
But that made me study the repair info supplied and I had to try the repair.
I was able to get 3 of the screws out with a #6 torx socket then had to go to Harbor Frieght to a small set of torx socket that had a #5 after stopping at Auto Zone,Orielly,s and sears.
I suffered the same difficulties as everyone with opening the module, I drove the metal sleeves down bellow the top don't know it that helped or not.
I broke off the outer lip of the module cover and then used a utility knife to score the adhesive and then used a screwdriver to pry off the top. At this point I was about to trash the whole thing and go see Mr.Dealer Man.
I then soldered all the connections circled in your pictures got the black rtv out glued it back together and used more of it to fill in the ruff edges put a couple of clamps to hold it untill the rtv dried. Installed it and reset a p1550 code the skid warning light went off right away the abs light stayed on utill I drove the car about 10 feet and for the first time in months this car has no warning light or warning messages.
