Hello,

Has anyone else experienced this problem. About 20 months (24K miles) ago I purchased the oil trap kit from FCP and as part of this kit is the URO breather hose (Part# 1271771). The car seemed to run just fine, no issues no more white smoke the dip stick. It worked or so I thought.

Fast forward, about four months ago our daughter-in-law kept telling me/us that she was losing oil, a fairly large spot under the car. So until we had both the time and money to figure it out and then fix it, so in the mean time she added oil at each gas fill-up.

We finally had both the time and money for another kit, what a surprise when got the intake off the entire breather hose disintegrated - gone, ripped right down the middle wide open, blown off the engine block. The rubber is soo soft it this flops around. BTW, I have photos if anyone is interested.

This really troubles me as this is the second time on two different cars this has happened. The other car is my '98 S70, (less than six months ago) I had to go to the local dealer and picked up a replacement breather hose. Originally I thought the clamp failed, although the hose destroyed then as well.

My question is: Is their a recall on this part, has anyone else had this problem.

I've had that one blow up before - that's the one I had to replace the first time at about 9 years old - that was the original Volvo hose.

My kit is URO too - I replaced the hose again when I did the whole system, and I really hope that doesn't happen again, I'm tired of dealing with oil leaks and I think I finally got them all sealed up for now. It's been almost 8 months since I changed the PCV system on mine.

I'd be interested in seeing pictures. Did it fail around the clamp, or around the middle of the hose?

I think you get the idea. Please any thoughts as I used the same URO hose again, it was part of the kit I ordered. I hope it makes through the winter.

Use ONLY Volvo parts for PCV, They last longer than URO!

You even had the Oetiker clamps on there, didn't you? I doubt it was from them being too tight - that thing just swelled up real good.

That one hose must take a lot of pressure - mine blew a big hole in the middle of it before.

I'd have to agree, for something as hidden as this is, I would only use OEM hoses if I did it again. I used a URO lower radiator hose, and it was leaking after just 3 months of being on there. It swelled up real big right before the clamp and pushed it off the radiator a little bit.

You are not the first to have that specific failure but I hope it was limited to a narrow time frame of bad parts since I have used the URO kits on two of the four cars I own.

So far so good with mine.

I need to service the PCV on my daughter's S70 soon and I am questioning whether or not to use the URO kit from FCP on it.
