'01 S-80: What is the firebox; why is it so $$$ to repair?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

'01 S-80: What is the firebox; why is it so $$$ to repair?

Post by frnorke »

My dealer says the firebox needs to be replaced. What is the firebox, where is it located, and why is it so expensive to replace? Is it a very expensive part or labor intensive to replace? Does anyone know if this part has another name? I'd like to see if I can find one online. THanks.

V/R,

Never heard of it. Call him and ask again what the part is. Get a part #.

Probably the PCV breather box. $35 for the box about $12 in seals. The rest is labor.

i think the dealer calls it the oil trap, i call it the money trap, such an over complicated design that did not have to be done like that...
