I have picked up a new '97 R that had major dash light issues. I decided that I should just go ahead and replace all of the bulbs why I have everything apart. I found the Repair Database entry for getting the switch bulbs online. Since I really didn't want to order bulbs I thought I would check Radio Shack. They carry these bulbs as part number 272-1092. They are 2 for $1.99 and stocked in all of my local Radio Shack stores.
I hope this helps anyone that needs to replace these bulbs.

Yes, I think that was noted in this Volvo 816 radio bulb replacement article, which also notes that a Honda Accord clock bulb works in the radio and in most of the dash switches. That's where I bought mine - I think they were about $2/each, and you don't have to re-use the base.

I just did my odometer gear fix, which was on here with the tutorial on my '97 850 GLT and while I had it out, I also purchased dash board "idiot lamps" for lack of a proper terminology, and being a shoe box Chevy guy all my life, from a company in Connecticutt. eEuroparts.com PN 419101. These were the same lamp as original unit, also, Osram was the manufacturer and they are a Flosser lamp. These were 99 cents each, and no rebuild necessary, camewith the base. Shipping was a little steap. For about $30 I had 20 lamps delivered plus the 4, W3W, PN 4090, replacements for the main guage illumination.
Did these work out alright?zhenya wrote:Yes, I think that was noted in this Volvo 816 radio bulb replacement article, which also notes that a Honda Accord clock bulb works in the radio and in most of the dash switches. Are these the same bulbs for used in the switches for the rear fog light, seat heater, headlight and w/e/s switch?

The switch lights have a totally different base so the idiot lamps are not compatible with the switches. There are also two different sockets lengths on the switch lamps.
