no heat/ foul smell

Post by khs »

I have a 98 Volvo S70 when I turn on the heat no hot air comes out and a white foul smelling mist comes out of the vents? Any idea what needs to be replaced and is it an easy fix?

Is the level of coolant in the overflow tank fluctuating at all? Is there a damp spot under the passenger side carpet under the dash area?

I did notice that the level of coolant was low in the overflow container, but there was not a wet spot under the carpet.

Hhmmm, how is the engine coolant temperature once up to operating temperature? Should be somewhere close to the 3:00 position on the gauge cluster. You're A/C and Rec lights aren't blinking, are they? I suppose the smell is somewhat like a mildew sort of smell?

Hate to butt in on this post but I have a curiosity question... my Rec and A/C lights were blinking at one point but have since stopped... what might that indicate?

Thanks!

Depends, you'd have to pull your codes stored in the B1 socket of the diagnostic module under the hood up near the windshield washer resevoir and reference them to find their meaning.
