I'd just do the SAS delete, rip out the air pump and assorted trash, and call it a day.

no no my volvo is in the most immaculate of shape i would say 9.9/10 and everything works perfect.. so i will get this air pump turning on no matter what im just at a wall right now i have been a master tech for about 7 years and i know what i am doing and this problem just has me stumped.. this morning it was kinda quite at the shop and i heard the vent soleniod click and the valve opening and closing, its pulse width modulated, and i know that the rest of the system is working fine.. i have a modus scanner but i do not have the volvo software for it.. i was thinking that the computer is not turning the pump.. has anyone had a problem where the computer would not be turning on the air pump?? keep in mind that all i did was change the pcv system and now this is happening...

one more thing i saw on i guess 850s there is a relay that looks like a cooling fan relay down by the air pump itself i didnt see that on my car the only relay like that is the actual cooling fan relay up above that fans under a little shield by the air pump valve solenoid.. is the only air pump relay i have in the "kidney" shaped fuse box second one up.. cause all those circuits and the relay tested good...

Does it matter if the air pump works really?
Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.

The fact that you hear exaust beat tells that the valve is OK, providing that this sound is heard only on the cold start and goes away after couple of minutes, otherwise the valve is partially or completely stuck open.

Did you ever get this repaired? I have the exact same problem and my car is due for smog.
