Is My Engine Running Hot? 87C thermostat; it's showing 95-10

I was checking the temperature via ELM OBD2 reader.
I put in a new thermostat 87C one from Calorstat.
Drove around with the live reading and it was showing anywhere from 95 C to 100 C.
Is this normal? Isn't the idea of thermostat to keep the engine at 87C?
The temperature gauge in the cluster is slightly above 3 o'clock position and stays there once the engine warms up.

Any ideal?
thanks a lot.

Also what temperature is the red zone on the gauge (overheating)?

Mines is about level too. about 3 o clock, doe it seem like its running hard? are you burning up a noticable amount of oil?
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

I'm pretty sure the temperature designation only corresponds to when the thermostat will actually open. It doesn't mean it will necessarily hold the temperature exactly at that number. If your temp gauge is holding perfectly with no fluctuations, then there is nothing to worry about.

there's no fluctuation of the gauge whatsoever. once it get's to slightly above 3 o'clock it stays there.
it's only in scanmaster-elm software that i could see temperature changing from 95-100 back and forth, etc.
