Power Window

Post by pwhisler »

I have a problem, here is a video, does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? its the driver's side window

it goes down without a problem, but on the way up, it gets stuck and makes that noise at 1/3, 2/3 and all the way at the top. I can pull it with my hand to get it through that stuck point.

as a side note, how do you embed videos on here?!

thanks!

could it be the power window motor? but i'm not sure why it goes down smoothly, and up smoothly except for those 3 spots.

or could it be the control module?

i sent an email to ipd and got this response:

Hi,
Most likely you are going to need to replace the window regulator assembly. The motor and gear assemblies are all pressed together into a non serviceable part. It has to be replaced as a complete assembly. We don't stock it, but we can order one for you for $268,
Volvo part # 30623448. You might be able to get a used one from a wrecking yard for around $100.

Let us know if you'd like to get one on order.
Thanks and good luck,

does this sound right to anyone? anyone know where i can get a cheaper one/used one?

Hi Paul,
Most likely the coil wrapped steel cable is worn in the area that is slipping. Possibly you might be able to get some more life out of it by lubing the cable and felt window tracks, but it sounds like its worn pretty bad base on the video you made. I have attached a pic of the regulator assy and a sunroof steel cable just so you can get a sense of what you’re dealing with

Not sure how difficult the job is, but would estimate it to take 1-2 hours.

Good Luck with it.

Hi pwhisler, sorry nobody's gotten back to you. I'll start with what I do know, and work toward what I don't. :-)

How to embed YouTube videos at on MVS Volvo Forums.

BUT, recently YouTube began making their "Share" URLs look like this

Notice the domain is youtu.be, not youtube.com. That throws the forums' video tag off, so when you apply the YouTube tag, it doesn't work.

The solution -- until I fix the code on MVS -- is to copy from your browser's URL bar, then wrap in the MVS YouTube tag.

Code: Select all

... which yields

Ok, on to what I don't know about. Like a good seat-of-the-pants shadetree mechanic, I'd take the door panel off and see what you find. half the time you get lucky and it's obvious, like a broken $4 guide clip. Here's an '05 S40 door panel removal guide, but that or '04 was a "split year" so it may not match exactly your door.

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Sounds like you are going to have to replace the window regulator unit. I had to do this on my 01 a couple of months ago and it is easy.. expensive but easy. I actually found the part for around $140 for my car. I thought it might have been the motor so I took the regulator out of another door and swapped motors. That didn't fix it so the only other option was the whole assembly.
