Just spent $500 with FCP. It rips me that $105 of this is shipping (sob) Still much cheaper than local though. It seems in this country when you own European, people see you coming and think everything is worth a premium. I am trying to get some junk yard rear springs to replace the nivomats and the first wrecker I talked to wanted $300 for a pair of used springs! Now getting ready to trawl Ebay etc.

That's life with European vehicles everywhere but Europe, I think! If I try to buy parts locally, prices are maybe twice what I pay online.

And you're not alone. I, personally, only own one Volvo right now, but my father owns one, too, and my sister, who is just now beginning to drive, is going to be driving a hand-me-down (from my father to me to her) '91 740 sedan. And, my first car was a Volvo 240 wagon! They can be a bit high-maintenance, I suppose -- at least, these "newer" Volvos (the 240 and 740 never gave us much trouble) -- but it's worth it!

I'm up to four and counting. How can one not want more than two, one to play with, one to drive every day and the last one (clean one)for nice days.

Maybe I'm crazy !!!

I hope I´m not too late, I think you can keep the old upper shock mounts! Some people here got tired of changing the upper mounts too often and bought mounts for 850 AWD or FWD with nivomats. If you want to save at least a little money?

It's been shipped. The rear upper mounts are not that expensive anyway and they are knackered. Have rear springs and shocks (probably get new shocks anyway) on the way from a wrecker. $100 the lot, was a real nice guy to chat to on the phone, I think I have found my new favourite junk yard! Took some searching though.

The other day I posted about the wagon being smokey after starting following an ECU reset. I drove it and the smoke cleared.
Today I started it to swap cars in the driveway and it started smoking again..HEAVILY!
The exhaust smells the same as my other one just much stronger. The smoke feels very damp. There is no discoloration in the coolant and no gunk in the oil cap (I was scared I have blown the head gasket) The car otherwise runs fine and is not storing any codes in A2.
I took it for a drive and was towing a smokescreen for about 3 miles which was a bit embarrassing. As the car warmed up, the smoke diminished and eventually disappeared. I gave it several full throttle starts to 70mph and got her to full operating temp for several miles. Back home in the driveway, no smoke at all and no bad smells. I am baffled. The temperature is not running any hotter than usual. I hope I haven't blown a head gasket because now I am committed to the car with all the replacement parts I have got. Any ideas? I guess the only definitive test is to have the coolant tested for combustion gases?

The car sat in the car park at work last night while I was away. Today it started nice, and began to smoke after about one minute. I think I see a hint of blue in it now too. The smoke cleared within a mile. Turbo seals? Have noticed fumes from the dipstick too, you can see the fumes but can't feel any gases being blown out with my hand over the hole. Could a partially blocked PCV cause my smoke issues??

Since you are in the middle of winter I wouldn't worry that much about a bit of smoke and condensation before the car warms up. All of mine have some degree of exhaust smoke on startup in the winter and it continues until the engine and exhaust system warms up.
