You need #1, the angle gear, #19 the connector sleeve, and I strongly suggest #20 the green rubber o ring that seals the trans fluid from getting to the splines in the sleeve and leaking between the transmission and angle gear.

Jimmy one more question.

I understand the car is in 2WD only, do you think the car can be driven like this without damaging anything else? I have no leaks what so ever and no warning symbols about it, I *sometimes* hear very minor grinding noise what accelerating and still below 20 KM/H and disappears after that. If giving the car a kick start, my front wheel would spin and this mean AWD is not functioning at all.

The unit price is too expensive and I've been reading for almost two days about this issue and alot of users are saying it will FAIL again as this might be something to do with the car is being too heavy for the Angle Gear (Design Issue) and buying a used one is not recommended as apparently there are some ratio issues that must match with the transmission and specifying year/model/trim will not be enough as the physical appearance will be the same for the angle gear, meaning only the dealer can be 100% sure.

thx

There are only two ratios. 1:3.31 for 98-2000 XC70.
1:2.62 for all others. If you get one from similar year and model it will work. There are differences in some of the units by application as s40/v50, new S80 and other P3's, and T6 XC90 have different angle gears.
On 2003 and later angle gears do not fail so readily. The main killer is the oil doesn't get checked and the oil fails and ruins bearings. The seller has a guarantee and ships free and if the unit is not good it will not turn smoothly so it can be checked easily prior to installing.
If it were my car I would install a good used one. I didn't look through the thread but I think your vehicle has more miles than the miles for the part you found. If the one on there now develops a seized bearing it will cause a problem. You can make the vehicle a permanent 2wd by changing RH axle to the part number for 2wd model and replacing the seal on the trasmission where driveshaft inserts to the one for 2wd drive model. You will lose the tractive advantages you likely will need when the weather gets snowy and icy.

Perfect. I just spoke with a Volvo shop and thinks it might be the oil level is low and the angle gear doesn't need replacing, anyhow it has to be opened anyway to check the oil level (1 hour labour), he also mentioned the dealer will not bother checking the oil level and they will recommend replacing the whole angle gear.

I will keep you posted.
Thanks again

I got the car back from the dealer, both the angle gear and the sleeve and the o-ring seal were replaced along with some sensors, still no AWD as they told me I need an A.O.C Pump ($384.00) + couple hours labour, when asked about how sure they were, they said 90% they are claiming the DEM is working fine

Does anyone know how the DEM works? How do you usually know your DEM is good or not?

Thanks

I'm looking for a transfer case for a 2000 v70xc, is that the same ratio (1:3.31)?

Resurrecting an old post...

I don't have the sleeve problem (yet) but I want to ask some gurus regarding the Angle Gear Sleeve.

Is this problem unique to any engine: V8, 3.2 or 2.5T?
Or does this happen to all models?

2005 XC90 2.5T 110K+

The problem is random I believe, not like the T6 trans issues. I have a 5T with no AWD myself but I haven't played with it yet, Ive been putting it off sonce the car has 225,000 miles in it.
