1999 V70 overheating

Hook up a OBD-2 tool to it and read the live data when it starts to raise to verify the temperature. There is a chance that the water pump is bad. I believe the system is pretty simple. Water pump, thermostat, coolant, radiator and circulation. To much heat and pressure for the system to clog up.

Do you have an air leak from the Reservoir Cap?
Do you see Fluid return from the small top Hose into the Expansion Tank?


Did you check to see if the car will overheat while idling?


If I remember correctly one member in a recent Post said this worked for a year or more in his car. Don't remember if he found his current problem related to the cooling system

What caused the blown head gasket?

Sorry, I never posted the fix. It was a faulty temp sensor. A $16 part!
It was showing too high.

Funny -- I just saw this. I would have put money on a faulty engine coolant temperature sensor. In my experience, ECT, thermostat and leaky expansion tank cap are reasonable starting points for overheating issues.

Hi
my adorable c70 convertible is overheating, and $1,800. later still overheating. Volvo dealer in Albuquerque states rebuilt or new engine needed. Help?
has $135,000. miles I drive 40 miles twice a day to clinic and it is hot out here in New Mexico plus higher altitude .Please , any advice?

Besides the obvious leaks, you may have a bad water pump or faulty thermostat (although most fail open).
