warped head on a 850 turbo
warped head on a 850 turbo
Hello every one, I have a question that I hope someone can answer for me. Took my car to a mechanic to get a new head gasket since my 850 turbo wouldn't start and I've seen antifreeze in the cylinders. They proceeded to change the gasket but also say that the head is warped :/ (bummer!). My question is does any one know what the specs are for shaving the head to fix it? Or where to find that info or have a head to sale?

Just find a good machine shop and have them deck the head. Many have shaved off 0.025" with no ill effects.
Many of our members have used Clearwater Cylinder Heads - www.cylinder-heads.com - if their head was too bad for the local machine shop to repair. Virtually all of them have been happy with the part and their service.

Yea, I'm with Lee. A good head shop will decide if it's done or fixable. The head on our S70 was warped but they took it and got it straightened out.

Cam journal bores can bend along with the head face.
My 1999 V70 head was 15 thousandths out across the head and 10 thousandths out across the cam bores.
The machine shop still managed to straighten it but they claimed they had to redo the valve seats due to the change in angle after the straightening.
The first machine shop said that the valve guides would need to be done; not the seats.
Volvo aluminium is considered quite soft after overheat. The V70 head only just passed the hardness test, though they said the same thing about my 960 head.
