Im actually headed back to see if the new pulley ( and bearing) and bolt will fit the old tensioner. or if the old bolt will fit the new pulley and bearing set up. the mission is to replace the bearing since this one has 205k miles on it.precopster wrote:What happened to the old tensioner?
For my '99 V70 and for a XC70 '02 I sold I refurbished my older type by finding a seller in eBay USA that was selling a pulley only which was the same outer diameter. I recall emailing the seller for dimensions. It was a Gates brand pulley. I had to shave 1mm from each face side with an orbital sander; took 2 minutes and I had a reliable solution. Only problem is that I can't reuse the plastic cap. Using the 14mm bolt is so easy.
If you still have the old one look into it as you can always put the new one back on eBay for an indie shop that has the factory tool.
I did talk to my local dealer, of course they dont want to help, they are exclusive in a small town, and have an attitude.
if its a new part ( or superseeded for the older ones) and what is needed, owning 3 in ths family, Id buy a tool, they said there is not a new tool for this other than a torx and a breaker bar, whcih I think he was just repeating what I said I had tried.
and of course, why dont you bring the car in, ka-ching
