Sounds like just the joint. If this is the case, be sure and check the inner core of the housing for a wear pattern from the old bearings. This wear pattern can figure into the wear of new bearings of shorter life. If this isn't the case, then disregard this input. :D .
Figuring it out. Your input is valuable.
I have a cv boot leak, Replacing it would require removing axle and working with axle components. I am taking notes for what tasks to include in my suspension project since it takes me weeks from start to finish. I have a 16 year old car with 125,000 of urban mileage. All original and stock.

CV Kit comes complete with the ball bearings and housing.
Simply remove old CV Joint and install new CV Joint into the axle splines.

Misha, you seems to be driving same model year like mine, but yours is white in Europe. Any chance that you could find me the GKN kit. cn90 has better grasp of exact part#.
I can be trusted with following good instructions.

Yep....but,if i may add, remove a wheel, pry off brake pads from a brake disc a little(use a flat screw driver) & install the wheel. This will eliminate the noise of brake pads dragging onto the disc and keep your attention onto the wheel bearing noise.

It's TIMKEN and it's actually a FAG bearing since TIMKEN & FAG are the same brand now.

The shipping will eat you alive. It would be at least 50-70eur(around 65-90$)....you'll wait about 15-20 WORKING DAYS(so...in real life about a month)for shipping overseas....and there is always a question.....will the package arrive to you undamaged. :?:

For the price of shipping & for the price of risk....i would try to buy those parts there.

I have a friend in Chicago IL....and 3 years ago he should send me a Walbro fuel pump for my car which was around 70$.When we added a price of shiping & the time for it's arrival....i could almost buy Oem Bosch for that money here in Serbia. And there is always a question...what if the product is damaged or faulty?
I should have a warranty...but if something goes wrong i would need to ship it back overseas....etc,etc,etc.It's not worth it,really.

But the GKN CV kit is 1000x better than the Chinese CV Joint sold in the US!
I'd buy the GKN CV Kit from the UK in a heart beat. Do it once and do it right.

I am surprised that US vendors (eeuroparts, autohausaz etc.) don't import this from GKN!
Actually if you browse eeuroparts, FCPGroton, you will see GKN CV Kits for Saab, VW but not Volvo.

Found Timken for $86 a piece.
Don't I also need the just CV boot kit for each axle's outer end?

I have a question along this line, but regarding the axle nut. Having replaced the Right side axle (rebuilt my from Raxles) I am now going to change a cracking boot on the Left (driver's) side. However, the axle nut is completely frozen!

I have just broken two 1/2" breaker bars using a 4' bar extension and then tried using a 1/2" extension over a jack-stand in order to change the vector forces and that broke the 1/2" extension. Usually the closer to the source the torque is applied the stronger the force. Used liquid wrench, PB blaster and even the acetone-transmission fluid concoction as solvents. I do not own an impact driver so that is not a possibility. I have not tried a propane torch. Am sort of hesitant since that has usually has not worked in the past and I am not certain how much heat transfer will occur before the nut expands.

Sort of out of ideas. Any one else?

dasapir,

Drive to a local shop and pay them $5 to undo the nut for you.
They will use either air gun or 3/4" breaker bar.
Then re-tighten it to about 120ft-lb or so.
Then drive home and do your business.
