You can see the top plate in the picture above my posts. If you contact the plate or the holes you will be fine. Just use the hammer to drive it to unscrew.

Filter still there. I am going to order that special tool in the video. I called around and cannot find it locally. I might try one more time tomorrow.
Worst oil change ever.

Another option is to ask your local indy shops if they have the special tool that you can borrow.
Just put down a deposit, borrow it, then return it and get your deposit back.

I finally removed my oil filter. I ordered that special tool from Bogert Aviation. The pins bent on the first try, so I replaced them with some thicker screws. That did the trick.
see the pic of all the tools I tried on the thing.
If anyone needs to borrow this tool after reading this thread, send me a message and I will overnight it to you (on your dime).
Do not overtighten your oil filter. God kills a kitten when you do this.

I know this is an old post, but after hours of struggling with the same thing, this worked quickly for me. I took a large hose clamp, tightened it around the filter with a socket and then used a hammer to hit the socket wrench until it started turning.

Thats awesome as a trick.

I use the fluted cup type oil filter wrench and have never had one stuck, but I hand tighten only, too.
