'95 850 T5R ecu swap to a '96 855 Turbo?

Post by boreddaily »

(Apologies in advance if this has been asked before -- at work right now and didn't see this come up in the forum search)

I did see the following (www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17449), but was unsure if this was possible as well without any issues? Also, I need to know the proper Bosch part number as well as part numbers for the 3 hoses leading from the boost regulator? Thanks.

You need to have the same emissions system on both cars (EGR or air pump). M 4.4 cars have an air pump; M 4.3 cars have EGR. Look for a small-diameter tube off the front of your air box and the SAS valve on top of the exhaust manifold.

If they're both equivalent, the ECUs will swap with no problem.

It may net you a few extra HP (like 10-15), but I really don't see it as worth the time. A tune would be your best option for more power. Not sure how that guy got 14 psi out of his, but it shouldn't really boost that high.

The boost control valve is the same between the R and the standard T5 (pn 127630). The hoses do have a part number but it is bulk vacuum line sold by the meter. I bought metric silicone lines from O'Reilly Auto Parts on the last one that I re-did the hoses on.

The '95 ECU might have some issues going into a '96. The speed sensor waveform is different. On the '96 it is a digital pulse train from the ABS module. On the '95 it is a sine wave that comes from the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission.

For the record, the speed sensor issue is probably fine. In my 95, I can readily swap between 95 and 96 ECUs. It is the other direction from the question here, but the speedo works fine with either ECU. The only issue is I removed the EGR, so when the 95 ECU is installed the car throws a code for no EGR signal.
