swap engine from V70 to C70

C70, 2000 model with turbo 5, 120K miles, has probable blown engine. While driving, oil pressure red light flickered, then stayed on. I drove a few more miles anyway (trying to get home), then engine lost power, made bad clunking noises, and I had it towed home. Oil was present per dipstick (had oil changed day before). I assume that oil strainer plugged up or oil pump failed, and that I likely destroyed the engine.

Is it likely that my C70 engine is kaput? Is it of value to try to do a cylinder compression test? Is it of value to try to get the oil pan off with engine in place, and what would I learn from inspecting from below ? I have a "hanger queen" 2001 V70 T5 with 215K miles that runs OK and would like advice. Is it sensible to go ahead and remove the C70 engine and either rebuild it or replace it with my available V70 engine. The transmissions are different (four speed versus five speed) and I assume the electronic control modules may not be compatible or perhaps I can get lucky and sub one engine for the other.

I would try to crank the C70 engine over by hand (with a wrench) at the bottom of the timing belt pulley. See if it's hung up or what happened.

Yes, I believe the 2001 engine BLOCK will transfer over just fine - it's practically the exact same engine as in the 2000. The wiring harness may be a bit different, but just use the wiring harness and all the sensors from the 2000.
