Does any one know how to make a Cam Locking Tool ?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I would like to make my own tool after seeing prices for a new one. Or if anyone is interested in selling one I would be interested in know your asking price.
Thanks

I just borrowed one from a local shop. Gave him a check for $300 which will be refunded when I am done. Good luck.

You don't need one for your '99 T6. Don't worry...the cam sprockets will not move when you take off the belt. At least they didn't on my '01 2.9, which is essentially the same engine as your 2.8 T6.

Just make sure you have everything lined up properly (#1 cyl at TDC, marks on plastic cover aligned with marks on cam sprockets). And BE SURE to rotate the crank 1/4 turn past TDC and then back to TDC ***BEFORE*** removing the belt. This will insure that your CVVT does not get screwed up.

You might also want to remove the crank pulley to make taking the T-belt off/putting the new one on easier. I didn't do this and it was a real PITA!

Good luck.

Not a lot of use on a VVT motor though. The cams themselves can move independently of the sprockets. Thais why there is a different tool that locks that cams at the rear of the block which is what the OP is asking about.

You can get away without either, but its a real pain in the ass if you plan removing the sprockets. Next time I'd get the tool.

I am doing the timing belt on a 94 wagon turbo 2.3 so how do i make the tool with plumbing parts as i have read in previous post. Is there a link to this thread on how to build one? I have seen a few pictures of some homemade ones but that's its 124$ does this lock the cams at the timing belt side or the cap and router side? And its necessary to use this for the timing belt change on my car right?

Buy one, DOHC lock tools are fairly cheap, like Lisle Tools 36880 ($28 on Amazon w/ Prime) . I've got similar one from Autozone for $40-something and did the job on 2002 V70.

No, but it will make your life much easier.
