Volvo S70 Abs And Traction Control Light On Topic is solved
Re: Volvo S70 Abs And Traction Control Light On
VolvoXC70, not sure if your model has the same issue as my 99 C70, but mine had the same thing and it is caused by faulty solder joints on the circuit board of the ABS control unit. There is a temp fix to wedge something near the connector, I'll try and find the link or you can search for it on google. But the best is to replace the ABS CU, from vovlvo it is not cheap but there is a guy who rebuilds them cheaply (http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha). I have read a bunch of good reviews on him. Hope that helps.
This happened after rear brake pad replacement. It had never happened before. I suspect this has something to do with the replacement of the brake pad. The mechanic said it is the ABS pressure sensor?
My model is V70XC awd, 1998.
Thanks.

DO NOT WEDGE ANYTHING BETWEEN THE MODULE AND THE HEAD OF THE HARNESS!!!! Please people, stop suggesting that.tsc1015 wrote:VolvoXC70, not sure if your model has the same issue as my 99 C70, but mine had the same thing and it is caused by faulty solder joints on the circuit board of the ABS control unit. Why?
Sure, it will make the lights go away...maybe. BUT, your incoming power pins are in that same area. They usually don't crack, but by jamming something in there you're stressing them. IF they crack, you're done. Cracks equal resistance, amperage and resistance equals heat...and a lot of it. Plenty of people have fried their module and harness by doing this, I have a stack of them here from people doing just that, and I've sold a handful of harnesses to the unlucky ones.
Second, it's a liability issue. That doesn't even need explaining.
Fix it right or leave it.

I`ll bring this up as the same has happened to me this day. I did replace the upper mountings at both rear shocks. when I was done, and should take it for a test drive, I notice that abs and the traction controll did not come of when I started it up. I could not either turn on the traction controll with the knob. should I start with checking the abs sensors for dirt? Do I have to reset codes for the lights to dissapear? also I notice that the fuel gauge did not work.. Can it be a connection between these faults? Is threre a fuse for this?

Did you mess with any of the plugs under the metal cap for the fuel pump? That's about the only way you could have done both of those at once, that's where they all plug in.
