So i installed Vol-FCR with a USB cable from Amazon today

I must say, Im a bit underwhelmed after all the difficulty in getting a working configuration. Windows 8 wont recognize the FTDI driver, you have to make sure the USB is on COMM port 1, and the software that supposedly supports the USB cable doesnt work, only the serial software works with the USB. Go figure. So at the moment I have five volvos, four in the 96-98 range and one with an ABS problem I have been solving. Since neither Torque nor my $200 innova scanner will read ABS codes (or SRS for that matter) I bought a ten dollar USB vag-com cable and downloaded a version of VOL-FCR. I read my ABS codes on my 98 xc70 and reset the service light, ditto for my sons car. It will also be handy for the occasional SRS light even though Im pretty good about disconnecting the battery anytime I work around an airbag or seat belt. I tried to get some ABS codes read near my house and they wanted to charge me $45. I just wanted to let all the 96-98 owners know that it is totally feasible to run the cracked version on windows 8 with the Amazon cable and you dont need a laptop with serial port (but you DO need version of the software for the serial port though.) I should be more excited but hey it does what it said it does.

Thanks! I want to read live data on my '97, and I was not sure what was really required to get the VOL FCR software and the VAG COM cable to work. It's good to know it can be configured to work!

Last week I ordered an Interfuse ELM327 USB-OBDII cable and am going to try out the EasyOBDII software.

If its live data you want i suggest Torque and an ELM327. I didnt see any live data possibilities with the VOL-FCR whereas Torque has very cool real time data including O2 sensor waveform data. VOL-FCR's strengths are ABS and SRS read and clear, and Service Light Reset.

I know where to finalize my ABS. Timing is everything.

To clarify, I have had some guidance from another site member here that is familiar with ABS, and possibly another diagnostic software.

Good luck to the OP. I will be delving into that software again soon.

I had good luck connecting the Dell laptop with the Interfuse USB-OBD2 ELM327 interface cable that I bought on eBay. I used the free Easy OBD2 software that came with the cable. It was easy to set up and connect. I used COM port 3.

I took some screenshots of the live data that I was able to capture while connected to the running car (wife was driving).

Overall, it was a great deal (only $10 delivered) and it seems to work pretty well for reading codes and live data.
