99 c70 No reverse manual transmission

Post by HulkC70 »

I have a 99 c70 with a manual transmission. I lost reverse but I can still shift into all other gears. What could be the problem I am facing? I need to fix this so for this is my only car.

It could be a linkage problem (you will need an expert for that to chime in) but more likely an internal transmission problem. Ugh. A used transmission is probably the way to go.

Don't forget to price out circular driveway vs used trans if it isn't the linkage.

I drove an old Beetle for 3 years without reverse once

So how do I check the linkage? I can't afford to take it somewhere so how difficult is it to do on my own?

The link above is your best bet for checking the linkage. You'll need a helper to move the shifter while you look around. That link seems to cover about all you can do linkage-wise.

Ok so it's definitely the shift cable. It's shredded. Volvo wants 170 for a new one and I can't afford that. Does anyone know where I can get one for cheaper. There is no yards around me with one?

Try Volvo Salvage and Southern Vo Vo, they're sponsors -- top right ads on all pages. If you have AdBlock on you should disable it for MVS to see the ads.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

On the other hand, thevpstore dot com (Volvo dealer in KC) sells the cable for $150.
