1999 V70R light problems, MVSolved, hatch wiring failure

1999 V70R light problems, MVSolved, hatch wiring failure

My bulb out lite on the dash came on and I traced it to the driver side front marker light. The socket has no power. Looking for wiring schematic or some ideas on if there is a plug somewhere that might be the problem. The turn signal lite works fine.

hi guys, I have this same problem on a new to me 2000 V70. I have pulled back the loom that enclosed the three wires going to the drivers cornor light. All three wires look pristine. Turn signal works fine. One thing I noticed that when the turn signal flashes one of the two bulb filament lights brightly, the other filament will light to about 20%.

really lost on where to go next. any guidance will be greatly appreciated!!!

Check the earth wiring for the corner light it is located just forward of the driver side suspension strut top in the engine bay - Mike

And if you can't find the earth, look for the ground wire and fix the (almost certain) bad ground connection

hi guys, I R&R the ground on the strut tower. as I removed the screw I saw the left headlight dim. tightened screw and headlight came to full brightness. there are three wires at the cornor light, green, black and white. which one of these three wires would make the cornr light not illuminate. the turn signal operates.

White is the side light
Green is the indicator
Black is the earth wire to both filaments within the single bulb

The earth point you cleaned up is also for the main headlight on that side of the car as well as a few other items, there is also an inline splice between the earth point and the corner light, if this is breaking down you will need to locate it in the main wiring runs to replace it - Mike

The turn signal lamp operates correctly. So this leaves the white wire that powers the left cornor light. The license plate lights share fuse 23. This fuse keeps blowing. So my conclusion is that I have the white wire grounding out between the front left cornor light and the license plate lights. Is there any known chaffing points that should be checked first?

While troubleshooting this problem I put in a 15 amp fuse to replace the blown 15 amp fuse. This caused a failure of headlight and other lights associated with the light switch. Turn signal, flashers and brake lights operate. reading in my owners manual fuse 23 should be a 10amp fuse. Could a higher amp fuse in fuse 23 shorted out my headlight switch causing other light to be inoperable?

Increasing the rating of a fuse when troubleshooting is asking for trouble I have seen this cause electrical fires in V70 models, the last one I repaired took me two days. First place to look for damaged wiring is where the cables go over the hinge point in to the tailgate on the left side of the vehicle, this is a known failure point on these cars.

If the master light switch has been overloaded that could be damaged as could the electrical portion of the ignition switch - Mike

OK, I got the cornor light to operate by disconnecting the plug to the license plate lights and installing a 10 amp fuse. SO I think my short is either from the plug to the license plate light assbly or from the plug going back into the car.

if I put a jumper cable on the plug end leading back into the the car and the fuse blows would that tell me that my short is on the car side of the plug?
