1996 Volvo 854 - Blower Motor

Post by Mister 850 »

Hello to all,

I just replaced my manual climate control resister and my blower motor and replaced 2 fuses. I'm getting no response from my blower at any fan speed setting (4). Any ideas of what I did wrong or what I could be missing?

Thanks!

A bad max fan relay will kill all four speeds. On the MCC there are two relays on a metal shelf just above where the blower resistor is located. One is the AC relay and the other is the max fan relay. You can swap the two relays and see if things change.

Mister850: Here are some pics to help you out. I had the same problem on my 1994 850.

Thanks, Ozark Lee and Shaker_Chi. I will change out my relays and see what happens.

Ok, I found the culprit:

My fan knob has a shortage of all things. When I push up on it, it connects and the fan blows perfectly. When I rerelease, it the blower stops working.

Thanks everyone!

Many times it is actually the AC/REC switch pack that has the problem. That is a known weak link and it will kill the blower. Pull out the radio enough to reach up behind the MCC control head and squeeze the AC/REC switch and see if things change.

I have had to replace them on both of my MCC equipped cars.
